Still working on book design

Here's a detail of the page next to the copyright page at the front of the book.  Should be only a couple more weeks until the book goes to print!  Barb is doing an awesome job putting it all together.  I'm very lucky to have her on my side!!

13th mosaic grouted for children's book

Here's a couple of details from the 13th mosaic for my book.  I mentioned before I have put many things in the book to personalize it to my family.  All of the above are Christmas decorations we have collected over the years.  The penguin is a stuffed penguin given to my son, who has always loved penguins.  The snowman my son made in 4th grade.  And the cat is an ornament my mother gave to me after my childhood cat, Spotty, died.

Finished Another Book Page!

Just finished mosaic #12 for my children's book, woo hoo!  I started this one in January and I'm not really sure why it took so long other than my busy-ness with the mosaic marathon.  The snowman here is based off a snowman my son made in the third grade.  The cat is an actual decoration of ours.  I've tried to personalize the book as much as possible.  The green checkered table runner is inspired by the runner my mother-in-law made for me.

Our cat Raymi is on this page again, too.  She is on almost every page, actually!

And in the last photo, I recreated one of my mosaics from a few years ago, "We're Free!" and put it in a frame.  The frame was actually a mirror at first (designed from our actual mirror) but it was complicated when it came time to make the reflection in the mirror.  It just didn't read very well, so I turned it into a framed artwork instead!  It's been fun putting my older mosaics in the book.  Going to get a start on the design for #13 this weekend.  Down to my last three mosaics for the book.  Hoping to be done by this summer!

At last Mosaic #4 for book is DONE!

I'm not really sure why this one took so long to finish! Started it in December and took a month off to make "I Gotta Be Me," but still took more than 100 hours to make. There were a lot of details in this and way more decisions to be made than in the previous three. This mosaic and the next three or four take place outdoors, and then it will be back inside again. I so wish I could share more details but I'm hoping the wait will be worth it! I'm having so much fun putting millefiori every place I can in the designs but with restraint! I don't want it to be TOO millefied :-)

I have a small mosaic to make now and then it's off to Chicago for the SAMA conference - can hardly stand the wait!!! So I'll start mosaic #5 at the end of next month. Guess I won't be finishing the book this year..... oh well....
