New Work - I Gotta Be Me

I am still working on the book, I promise! Nearly finished with mosaic #4, but I had to take some time out to create this mosaic for the SAMA mini salon in March in Chicago (can I even express how excited I am to go?!). It will be my second conference and I've never been to Chicago but have always wanted to. Can't wait to reconnect with all my mosaic buddies and meet some new ones!!

I'm glad to finally make a mosaic with this theme. Not only do I feel strongly about being yourself in your art and not creating for others, only YOU, but too often I see people being affected by the judgments of others and letting them dictate how they feel about themselves, how they act and what they choose to be and do. I like to live like the little orange cat - knowing who I am and not being swayed by what others think I should or should not be, spoken or unspoken! It's a much happier life and I wish the same for all of you!!

  1. Terrific post, and I love this artwork! I love the 3 sides of the border with the breaks. I did that last night on something and it makes me happy. I am not usually a pattern or border sort of gal, but it is such a nice way to frame a mosaic work. Breaking into the border is always exciting and fresh. The composition here is just lovely. Something about these fab felines reminds me of Laurel Burch, but they are Christine all the way.

  2. This is just the "Cats Meow"! I think this is one of my all time favorites of your work, but then each time you do something new it becomes an all time favorite! Also great theme, and really well said about being "You"!

  3. I love what you had to say!!! Leaving the judgments of others behind is so important in order to grow as an artist. Love the cats. They are so you, for sure. See you in Chicago!

  4. Up close you don't see the wonderful perspective and depth that you achieved even in this small piece. The light background and roundness of the cats bottoms and their positioning on the branch create an intimate and interesting perspective. It's like we're invited in to witness the thoughts of these felines. I couldn't help but smile at how you used those wonderful mille triangles in the cats ears. I believe so strongly in the sentiment in your post. Now I just have to take it in and live that way!
